MIKE SHALETT As long as I can remember, I have had a camera. My father was a war correspondent for the New York Times during World War II and carried a camera. It must run in the family. I was fortunate enough to retire at a relatively early age. I knew that I needed something to do or I would go nuts. Idle time and I don't get along well. I truly believe that anyone can make good images. To me, the secret of effective photography really isn't a secret: one must see the subject. It sounds simple, but I believe that most people don't see what is around them. By "seeing" I'm referring to the connection between the eye and the brain that tells your trigger finger to push the button that opens the lens of your camera and records an image. I also believe that there is no right or wrong in photography-except maybe removing the lens cap. Assuming you are not trying to make a living in photography (good luck), you have to please only one person and that is you. If you like the image, then it is a good image. |
